MGSU students became prize-winners of the 2022 BRAUIC International Student Competition

The results of the International Student Competition of Architectural and Construction Projects "BRAUIC 2022" were summed up at the Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BUCEA), Beijing, People's Republic of China, in October 2022. The topic of the competition "Railway: A New Bond Along the Silk Road" was devoted to the construction and management of railways and structures, urban reconstruction, protection of architectural heritage, environmental monitoring. MGSU was represented by 4 teams, two of which became prize-winners, taking 3rd place.

The team of Grigoriy Khlebnikov, Polina Zhvakina, Anastasiya Sakulina, Mamyy Sultan, Anna Trushkina under the guidance of the Department of Architecture senior lecturer Ivan P. Saltykov took the third prize in the "Architectural Design" nomination. They presented a project of a new railway station in the city of Borzya, Trans-Baikal Territory called "Weave of Transbaikalia". The new station building reflects the idea of environmental friendliness, since the main material is wood, the supporting structures are made of CLT panels and have a cantilever march to support the roof. Carved panels are used in the design of the facades. Besides, students suggested updating the forecourt to make it a comfortable recreation area. The building of the old railway station is proposed to be restored and used as a museum of the Trans-Siberian Railway.

The third place in the "Construction design" nomination was taken by the team of Karine Papikyan, Alisa Zenkina, Daria Zhuravleva and Elizaveta Kavinina with the project "The First Passenger Railway Bridge Russia-China "Unity of Countries". The project was supervised by the senior lecturer of the Department of Architecture Ivan P. Saltykov. The team presented a project of a railway bridge across the Amur River.

The team of Hu Zhiying, Wang Min, Mo Siqiao, Diao Linfan, under the guidance of the senior lecturer of the Department of Architecture Ekaterina S. Shafray became the winner in the "Architectural design" nomination. The project called "Grow from Rail" is dedicated to the railway station of the village of Nuki, which is located in Eastern Siberia. This project is designed to increase the mobility of population in Nuki.

The team of Maksim Savitskiy, Egor Sekachev, Anna Golubeva and Irina Sergeeva was announced the winner in the "Construction Design" nomination with the project "Only Beams" supervised by the senior lecturer of the Department of Architectural and Construction Design and Environmental Physics Evgeniy L. Bezborodov, and the Associate Professor of the Department of Metal and Wooden Structures Igor M. Garanzha. Two options of bridge designs were considered: a truss and a beam. As a result, it was decided to use a beam structure.
